Discovering Your
Vocal

Identity

We're well aware of the significance of your unique identity in your acting work — the significance of your authentic self. But have you ever stopped to consider the impact of your Vocal Identity? Your voice and speech isn't just a tool for communication; it's the embodiment of your life force and essence, when you resonate with authenticity and vitality. But many actors abandon their "home" sounds, sometimes due to institutionalized training, undervaluing their sense of self and the true power of their unique vocal footprint. The full sound your body produces holds immense power in shaping how others perceive and connect with you. When your voice and speech are fully connected, fluid and alive, it becomes the channel through which your acting work deepens, forging stronger connections with your audiences and fellow actors alike.

Meagan Prahl

Voice & Speech Coach

But the sounds that make your words meaningful are often the sounds we want to correct and abandon in our work, however, that way of speaking, is the core of who you are. Translating that meaning into all of your characters regardless of dialect, placement, and formality is at the base of this workshop. How you connect with language that is not your own shapes your ability to play fully realized characters with originality, and legitimacy making even the most outrageous choices feel grounded in reality. Using methods from KTS, Skinner, Berry, Linklater, Jones, Alexander and more this workshop will lay the foundation for further voice and speech exploration and deepen your ability to connect to your acting work.
