Performance: LAS Live presents a developmental workshop production of for colored girls who have considered suicide / when the rainbow is enuf by Ntozake Shange at The Last Acting Studio.

One of the most essential theatrical works of the last century, for colored girls is a landmark choreopoem of movement, music, memory, and testimony. Shange’s work gave language to a generation of women, and continues to open up space for truth, survival, imagination, and joy.

This intimate LAS Live presentation invites audiences into the creative process, reimagining the piece for five voices and leaning into the ensemble, ritual, musical, and poetic nature of the work. Music is central to this exploration, shaping the space between poem, memory, movement, and live performance.

The evening lives between poetry event, concert, ritual, and theatrical production: raw, immediate, music-filled, and alive in the room. As a developmental workshop, performers may work with scripts in hand as part of the live exploration.

Presented as part of LAS’s 5th anniversary, this limited engagement brings audiences close to the performers, the language, and the making of the piece itself. This production is created through a revenue-share model, with ticket revenue supporting the artists involved.
