Unleashing the Essence of Character & Scene Work

Alexandra Billings
Alexandra teaches Viewpoints through the lens of Stanislavski, Meisner and Uta Hagen. She is the first actor in a lineage of The Viewpoints practice, that begins from originator Anne Bogart, that has realized them to be a common language, more than just physical movement. This intensive is about igniting the actor’s internal life. Starting from self and forming the marriage of one’s own personal history with the imagination of the author of the play. Bringing to fruition; truth under imaginary circumstances through the original voice of the artist. That is the practice. That is the exploration.
This six-week workshop combines Viewpoints-based methodology with Scene Study work.
A Six Week Master Class with Alexandra Billings
We will explore the idea of “character” contained in “scene work”. The actors life is the only criteria for building imaginary circumstances, and being present is the only requirement for building a truthful character.
We will explore the difference between invention and creation.
We will explore creating character from inside as well as outside.
We will explore how an authors words live inside each of us.
And each student will leave with specific tools to use in creating character within the confines of an authors work.
We explore with joy and not with trauma. We investigate with compassion and not emotional chaos. We will reveal the joy of performing and the power of what it means to Dream Truthfully.
There is always a joyful noise when the freedom of the artistic self is reignited.
So let’s explore. Let’s find out.
And let’s laugh and let the world feel the shift of who we are as we tell other’s stories about who they were.
